The LIAISON project was also represented at TRA 2026 in Budapest by the University of Minho, which showed the latest results on the Life Cycle Assessment of Geopolymer Precast Slabs for Road Pavements, comparing them with conventional concrete precast slabs.
Presented within the conference programme dedicated to sustainable transport and infrastructure innovation, the study explored the environmental benefits of using geopolymer-based materials in road applications. By assessing environmental impacts from raw material extraction through production and transportation to the construction site (cradle-to-site) – the research highlighted the potential of geopolymer precast solutions to significantly reduce carbon emissions and reliance on conventional cement-based materials.
The work contributes to LIAISON’s broader objective of developing more circular and low-emission transport infrastructure solutions, combining innovative materials with performance and sustainability assessment methodologies.
