Making transport infrastructure climate-neutral, sustainable and circular

After three years of work across roads and railways in European countries, LIAISON has reached the end of its journey, and this is the final issue of our newsletter.

Before we sign off, we want to leave you with the results that matter most and that will remain available well beyond the project. You can now read our Policy Brief, with recommendations for standardising smart, low-carbon infrastructure across Europe, and explore the final Innovation Handbook, which brings together all our solutions, evidence and lessons learned in one place. All our video interviews and clips are gathered on our YouTube channel, and you can look back at our last General Assembly and Final Event in Santander, where partners, infrastructure operators and authorities discussed how these innovations can move from demonstration to real-world uptake.

Thank you for following LIAISON. The project ends here, but the work of making transport infrastructure climate-neutral, sustainable and circular continues!

Policy Brief – Standardising Smart Low-Carbon Infrastructure

The technology for low-carbon, smart infrastructure is ready. Now Europe’s standards must catch up. A new LIAISON policy brief shows that geopolymer precast, embedded sensors and digital production can cut the embodied carbon of infrastructure by around 78–80%, and calls on the European Commission, CEN and CENELEC to update standards, certification and procurement so these solutions can reach the market.
